There is a world-wide grassroots network of potters who
raise money for their local food bank. All money raised through the sale of
ceramic bowls through Empty Bowls stays in the local community.
The website
www.emptybowls.net
tells the history of this fine project, and a schedule of events.
In my home
area of Douglas County, Oregon, Umpqua Community Action Network (www.ucan-douglasco.org)
sells bowls at the annual UVAA (www.uvarts.com)
Summer Art Festival in Roseburg, the last weekend in June.

Here I am with Tom Kelley, the
director of Food Shares for UCAN. This is the Empty Bowls booth at the UVAA Summer Arts Festival in Roseburg. |
